Divide and Multiply Garden
July 8 - What do you do when it's over 100 degrees out? Weed of course. Tina, the world's best mother-in-law, was already weeding when I arrived this morning. Tina says that gardening is therapy for her. That must be why she is always so nice. Well I wish I could say it had the same effect on me. The garden was a mess! As I weeded, millions of questions rushed through my head like - Why do weeds grow better than flowers? Does crab grass hold on for dear life when I'm pulling on it? Why does crab grass grow so well when the rest of the lawn is dormant? Why are weeds drought tolerant? Where did this squash plant come from and why is it so HUGE (Tina took 1/2 of it out because it was choking the other plants). And why is it growing better than the one's in my garden at home. The ones that we've been watering every day. Is this how Sisyphus felt?
Seriously though, I wanted everyone to see how beautiful the Divide and Multiply garden is turning out (sans weeds). As we were weeding we were mostly wondering "What wonderful person donated that plant from their garden?"

Composting, Harvesting, WeedingMay 11 - This was the last official Garden Club session. The kids learned about composting and then made their own bags of compost. Tina brought in her worm compost and taught the kids how vermicompost. She even let them take some home. The kids harvested some vegetables from the garden and then they weeded the Divide & Multiply Garden.

Harvesting After Field DayMay 25 - Some of the kids came buy after field day to harvest vegetables from the garden.
