Giant Sunflowers, More Veggies
April 17, 2015 - Gardeners prepared the northernmost raised beds for growing giant sunflowers. Weeding and removing old markers, sticks, and stones were first on the to-do list. Next, the gardeners worked the soil and added compost to help feed the growing plants.
After a chance to run the Yellow Brick Road, the gardeners sat in the shade to hear about which plants were to be weeded out of the raised beds, and which were to be left to grow a bit longer. They also learned how to mix in compost carefully, using gloved hands.
Younger gardeners prepared the soil and planted sunflowers, while the older gardeners planted vegetables of their choosing.
