First Day of Garden Club, Fall Session 2014
September 5, 2014 - The gardeners were welcomed back by a banana pepper and one tomato plant still hanging on in the raised beds, vestiges of a summer quickly gone by. There were also some tremendous weeds, quite a contrast to last spring's harvest of low-lying, lush greens. Mrs. Regina, Mrs. Huelskoetter, and Ms. Lingo helped the gardeners notice the changes in the garden, and Mrs. Regina brought along some cauliflower and basil for the children to plant in the raised beds that had been weeded over the summer. Deciding the bed was very dry, one of the Junior Master Gardeners stayed late to water the plants in. It takes a team!
Play Time, Circle TimeThe gardeners were back in the swing of things the first Friday of school, starting off with some playground time, followed by snack and circle time. Mrs. Regina reviewed the plan for the afternoon, which included looking at the plants growing in the garden, weeding, and then transplanting plants Mrs. Regina had brought along.

Preparing the GardenSome of the weeds that had grown all summer were taller than the gardeners! The children enjoyed preparing the raised bed that had been tended throughout the summer. They also enjoyed finding dill plants that had gone to seed and smelling the wonderfully fragrant stems and seeds.
