Composting and Mulching
Today the kids learned about "decomposition" and the role it plays in composting. The kids dug holes in the garden and buried items made of different materials such as glass, metal, plastic, veggie sticks (that's what we had for snack), paper, etc. In a couple of weeks we'll dig them up and see if they've decomposed.
After that we weeded and mulched the Divide and Multiply garden. The kids demonstrated hard work, helpfulness, creativity, improving on an idea, and most importantly teamwork. On a side note, the Divide and Multiply garden plants are thriving! It's hard to believe that it was just a year and a half ago that we planted the plants that families donated (Fall 2011). They were so small then. Now it's almost time to divide them again! |
Alone we do so little, together we can do so much!

There are so many worms in our garden. That's a good thing!
