The Finishing Touches
September 27, 2013 - The gardeners are meeting in Mr. Pitera's room on Fridays at dismissal. And what a treat Mrs. Regina found: a book featuring a variation of The Three Little Pigs, with a very Garden Club ending! After a lap on the yellow brick road, the gardeners returned to the Little Red School House patio and discovered that their egg carton insect bodies from last week had mysteriously developed shiny metallic or chenille stem legs, six of them, of course. Rondel, sticker, or google eyes were attached (thanks, Mrs. Regina, for bringing and manning the hot glue gun!), and the children had the opportunity to add vellum wings that they colored, one or two sets, depending on the type of insect they made. Antennae completed the look, and the children enjoyed buzzing, flying, and launching the insects. Mrs. Regina, Ms. Lingo, Mrs. Huelskoetter, and Miss Hanna Morrison were very impressed with the gardener's creativity. There sure are a lot of different kinds of insects out there!
Story Time
The gardeners relaxed after a full day at school with a classic story, revisited in a Garden Club theme--flower houses!

Exploring the Yellow Brick RoadThe gardeners are very observant of any changes in the pathway, pointing out deer, interestingly shaped sticks, how wet or dry the grass is and picking up treasures along the way.
