November 16th
Seed FramesThe kids made some beautiful picture frames using seeds and natural objects. They enjoyed themselves so much, it was hard to get some of them to finish and move on to the next activity. A special thanks to Carla Bangs, Master Gardener, for coming back and helping with this project.

November 9th - 4H Special Guest
The Junior Master Gardener program is part of 4H. Sarah Weaver, a representative from the Orange County 4H office, came to talk to the kids about 4H.
She began with a "get to know you" game, where the kids threw a ball around with different questions in spaces on the ball. As they caught it, they had to answer the question that their right thumb was touching when they caught the ball. They took turns describing their favorite memories from holidays, vacations, special times with family and friends as well as their worst memories such as the first time to the emergency room. Mrs. Weaver taught the kids the 4H pledge and described to them the many opportunities available through 4-H, both in the school and the county. As part of 4H, kids will be presented throughout the year with events in which they can participate such as a talent show, 4-H summer camp and many others. Mrs. Weaver then gave each student a card with lots of individual pictures on it. The kids had to pair up and try to find what object they had as a match on the two cards. The person who voiced the match first, got to take the other's card and then proceed to someone else. The goal was to get as many cards as possible. The student left without a card in each case, would follow behind the winner and cheer him or her on. Ally won! She finished with a game in which students were asked to draw a garden picture and keep it a secret from a partner. Each partner then described their picture as the other attempted to draw the same picture just from hearing a description. They were then instructed to compare and see how close their pictures were in similarities. They all did an awesome job in following directions and getting the pictures to look remarkably the same. We ended the day with a visit to the gardens. The vegetables are coming along nicely and our rye grass is about a foot tall and still growing. |
